What is Gastroschisis ?

Gastroschisis, causes the intestines to protrude outside the belly, results from a weakness in the abdominal wall and must be repaired surgically. Gastroschisis is not normal. Although a fetus' intestines will develop outside its body for a time, they should be totally internalized at the time of birth.

                          Avery's Angels Was Created To

* To support parents expecting babies who will be born with gastroschisis.
* Provide emotional and financial support to families who have babies born with gastroschisis.
* Provide an opportunity to network with other families dealing with gastroschisis and related complications.
* Assist in other ways as indicated by circumstances.
* Encourage research to find the cause.

AAGF is an all volunteer foundation. There are no paid employees. We depend on your donations and volunteers to accomplish this vital mission. Please encourage family and friends to "Get Involved." To learn more about how you can help visit the volunteers page.

We currently have a great group of volunteers and are always looking to add to our ranks. We can provide parent-to-parent support with those veteran gastroschisis parents and, are able to access leading physicians, surgeons and nurses at University of North Carolina (UNC) Hospitals to answer any questions.

We are constantly looking for more ways to help. In whatever way you may need us, we are here.
